History - One Arm Bandits

It is known by many names but most people only remember this canny machine for what it does to your wallet: It bleeds you and yet tempts you to go back for more. Designed specifically to rob you of all your hard earned cash, this machine is said to earn 90 percent of Casino profits. Having thrown the One Armed Bandit in a negative light, let me say that this cheeky machine will bring lots of joy and entertainment to your house.

The first one built in 1895 by Charles Fey of San Francisco, California. In 1907,  Herbert Mills from Chicago produced a slot machine called the Operator Bell. By 1908 lots of "bell" machines were installed in most cigar stores, saloons, bowling alleys, brothels and barber stores

Sometimes, Slot Machines even gave out fruit flavoured chewing gums as winnings. The watermelon, orange and cherry pictures on the slot reels can attest to that. The BAR symbol now common in slot machines was derived from an early logo of the Bell-Fruit Gum Company. The Liberty Bell, another symbolic icon of America, is a common place on most slot machines to which the reason im clueless also.

In 1963, Bally developed the first fully electromechanical slot machine and this led to the end of heydays of the One-Arm- Bandits and the rise of sore thumbs.
